Important tips for when you have an insurance claim

Over the years, we have learned some very important lessons. Today, we want to share with you some important tips if you have an insurance claim.
The insurance company’s claims adjuster is your point of contact for an insurance claim.
-Take note of their name, phone number and email address.
Claims adjusters are notorious for being very busy and overworked, even overwhelmed. This is what every insurance company. Here are some tips:
1) If the claims adjuster needs anything from you, give them the information as quickly as possible. Don’t delay. Just get it done.
2) If they stop communicating well with you, let us know. We can get involved and reach out to them and their manager and ask them to do a better job communicating. This really helps. This is a MAJOR BENEFIT of having a great independent insurance agency like us!
3) The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so if you need something from the claims adjuster and if they are not getting back to you, FOLLOW UP WITH THEM OFTEN. Call them every day if you need to. Be nice about it but be persistent with them.
4) Your contractor or the company repairing the damage has a big part in the claims process. Hopefully they understand how to work with the insurance company. Often times, when there is a problem in the claims process, it is the contractor who does not understand how to work with an insurance company. Choose your contractor or company wisely.
5) Remember that “You catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.” If you are nice to the adjuster, it just helps the entire process.
6) Sometimes, a complex claim can drag on for a long time. Do everything that you can to get everything done AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. Don’t delay. If something needs to be done, do it as quickly as possible. Things can go bad when a claim is open for a really long time.
