E-Bikes are not covered by homeowners insurance
Regular bikes are covered by homeowners insurance (There are restrictions. Let us know if you have questions about this). E-bikes have a motor so they are not covered by homeowners insurance. If your E-bike is stolen or if you injure someone, your homeowners insurance will not cover you. You will need a special insurance policy for this.
Please let us know if you have an E-bike and if you want to get it insured.
Here are some things that can happen:
1) It can get stolen
-A lot of bikes are getting stolen across Colorado right now. (We all need to take special action to secure our bikes and E-bikes as well as possible)
2) You can cause an accident and injure someone or cause damage to someone’s property
-E-bikes can go fast. An Emergency Room doctor told me that he is seeing more and more elderly people in the Emergency Room…..from E-bike accidents! People are saying “Let’s get Grandma an E-bike” then she hops on and zooms away at 20 miles per hour and then gets into an accident. We recommend that you practice and train on your E-bike so that you will have the skill/strength/ability to control it.
-If you injure someone or damage property, you want an insurance policy to help you.
3) There are other things that can happen on an E-bike. Use your imagination and think of something crazy and it has probably happened to someone.
The moral of the story: Get an insurance policy for your E-bike. It is not covered by your homeowners insurance. We will help you with it if you let us know.
Thank you!
